Welcome to Jumma Masjid
Jumma Masjid, also known as Sangeen Jamia, is the oldest and one of the most revered mosques in Bangalore. Situated on OPH Road (Old Poor House Road) in Shivajinagar, this historic mosque stands as a testament to the city's rich Islamic heritage and architectural brilliance.
The foundation of Jumma Masjid is believed to have been laid by Emperor Aurangzeb, with its original construction dating back to 1790, under the patronage of Haji Qazi Abdul Quddus Saheb. The mosque also had the support of Tipu Sultan, with construction materials brought from Srirangapatna, further linking it to the region’s powerful rulers.
The grand prayer hall, supported by 14 massive stone pillars, was intricately crafted by skilled artisans from Mysore. However, the mosque suffered damage during the Mysore War due to cannon fire and was later renovated in 1836. Over the years, it has undergone several restorations while maintaining its original grandeur.
Jumma Masjid showcases Indo-Islamic architecture, featuring tall minarets, intricate carvings, and elegant domes. The use of white marble and finely detailed stonework enhances its visual appeal, making it one of the most beautiful mosques in Bangalore.
As a key place of worship, Jumma Masjid is a spiritual hub for Bangalore’s Muslim community. It draws thousands of worshippers, especially for Friday prayers, Eid celebrations, and special religious gatherings. The mosque has been a symbol of unity and devotion for over two centuries.
The mosque was registered under the Wakf Act in 1965, but official administration was taken over by the Wakf Board in 2012 to ensure its preservation and management.
To be a beacon of spiritual enlightenment, community unity, and service, fostering a welcoming environment for worship, learning, and personal growth. Jumma Masjid aims to inspire individuals to live with faith, compassion, and integrity, while promoting peace, harmony, and social responsibility within the broader community. Through dedication to the principles of Islam, we strive to be a center that nurtures the mind, soul, and spirit, leaving a lasting positive impact on future generations.
